I will begin to document parts of my journey in Kalasapudi Kuteeram here. I have experienced unparalleled excitement and peace since I laid eyes on this house.
You can read the 12 page background report I wrote on why I need to buy the house by clicking here.
I have decided to name the house Kalasapudi Kuteeram for a few reasons:
1. Traditionally in Andhra Pradesh homes have names, and I have always wanted to name the house I own.
2. Many of the other houses in the South Salina Historic District have names such as Justus Newell House, Anson Palmer House, and Dunfee-Kelley House. However, 1638 was not ever named as such. Locally, it was called "The Big House" but there was never an official name.
3. Kuteeram has at least two meanings in Telugu. The more common meaning is small hut or shack. Naming this house in that sense is slightly tongue in cheek.
4. The other meaning is abode or oasis or refuge. Indeed the house has become a refuge for me even before I have moved in: both physically and psychologically.
5. I like the alliteration.
